Kirsty McKelvie (Treasurer)

Kirsty McKelvie - Accountant

  1. What is your work / passion / side-hustle?

I’m an accountant, and my husband Damien and I have a farming partnership that I manage the office side of things for. In addition to being a part of Women in Business Wagga, I’m also involved in a number of community organisations including the Marrar Football & Netball Club, Advance Marrar Committee, Marrar Public School P&C and Marrar Gymkhana Reserve Land Managers.

2. Beyond the 9 to 5 – what do you live for?

Family, friends, our farm, our home, our community, and being organised.

3. How did you land in Wagga - Are you Wagga born and bred, grew up here moved away and returned, moved here later in life and stayed because you love it, or something else that landed you here?

I’m Wagga born and bred - I grew up on a farm at Borambola, and attended primary and high school in Wagga. I continued my education through university at CSU Wagga, and now live on a farm with my husband and children at Marrar (just 25 minutes from Wagga!)

4. Woman (famous or not) you are most inspired by and why?

There’s not just one but many over the years, two of significance are;

  • My mum, Fiona – now having my own children I have no idea how she managed to raise my brother and I without the support of her own mum and family, having moved to Australia from Scotland in her early twenties.

  • My Nanna, Elva – for all that she experienced and the many hardships she endured in her lifetime; sickness as a child, an ambulance driver in the Second World War and one of the first to arrive on the scene at the Cowra Breakout, a farmer’s wife and being widowed.
